North Arkansas livestock auction report

The North Arkansas Livestock Auction, Green Forest, Ark., reported receipts of 895 head Oct. 3, compared to 1,231 head last week and 1,706 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $1 higher. Feeder steers uneven with the better kind under 500 pounds were $3 to $7 higher, over 500 pounds were steady to $3 higher and the plainer kind steady to weak. Feeder heifers were $3 higher to $2 lower, generally steady. Feeder bulls were steady to $8 higher, mostly $5 to $8 higher. The supply included about 562 feeder calves, 160 feeder yearlings, 30 replacement cows, 131 slaughter cows, and 12 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply included 30% steers, 48% heifers, and 23% bulls, with nearly 23% of the run weighed over 600 pounds. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 70.00 to 74.00; high dressing, 74.00 to 82.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 70.00 to 76.00; high dressing, 77.00 to 84.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 64.00 to 72.50; high dressing, 73.00 to 80.50; low dressing, 55.00 to 60.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 61.50 to 67.00; high dressing, 69.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 56.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 83.50 to 89.00; high dressing, 94.00 to 98.00; low dressing, 77.00.
