West Plains livestock auction report

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 2,464 head Oct. 2, compared to 3,017 head last week and 3,452 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture to USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers 350 to 700 pounds were unevenly steady to $2 lower, several heifers over 500 pounds fully $3 lower. However, a limited test of light and feather weight calves under 350 pounds along with some uniform bunches of high quality fancy black hided calves 350 to 550 pounds, sold steady to $2 higher than the previous sale. The supply was moderate. Demand was unevenly moderate to good, although buyers were fairly selective and most often selecting for quality and condition before annieing to up or bidding beyond last week's market. The supply consisted of 56% steers and 44% heifers, with around 21% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 400 lbs., 168.00 to 188.00, few scattered sales near 300 lbs., thin 210.00 to 215.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 157.00 to 170.00, lot 23 head, fancy 452 lbs., 178.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 145.00 to 160.00, lot 25 head, fancy 537 lbs., 165.00, few fleshy/full near 600 lbs., 138.00 to 140.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 142.50 to 150.00, some calves 132.50 to 141.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 230 lbs., thin 202.50; 350 to 400 lbs., 159.00 to 170.00, several thin 183.00 to 187.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 155.00 to 173.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 151.00 to 163.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 140.00 to 146.00, 630 to 635 lbs., 146.00. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 146.00 to 165.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 140.00 to 146.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 126.00 to 128.00. Large frame 1, 500 to 550 lbs., 144.00 to 149.00.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, lot 406 lbs., 92.50; package 599 lbs., 96.00; lot 47 head, 750 lbs., 102.00.
