Ft. Smith livestock action report

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 747 Oct. 1, compared to 657 head last week and 700 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $4 lower. Feeder steers were $1 to $6 higher. Feeder heifers were $2 to $5 lower. The supply included 353 feeder calves, 210 feeder yearlings, 55 replacement cows, 115 slaughter cows, 12 slaughter bulls, and 2 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahma and Brahma crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 68.00 to 72.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 72.00 to 76.50; high dressing, 77.00 to 81.50; low dressing, 67.00 to 71.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 70.00 to 74.50; high dressing, 75.00 to 79.50; low dressing, 65.00 to 69.50. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 55.00 to 59.50; high dressing, 60.00 to 64.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 54.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 90.00 to 95.00; high dressing, 100.00; low dressing, 85.00 to 89.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 350 lbs., 185.00 to 195.00 (189.00); 350 to 400 lbs., 180.00 to 190.00 (183.00); 400 to 450 lbs., 174.00 to 186.00 (177.00); 450 to 500 lbs., 160.00 to 163.00 (160.00); 500 to 550 lbs., 142.00 to 148.00 (146.00); 550 to 600 lbs., 141.00 to 146.00 (142.00); 600 to 650 lbs., 139.00 to 144.00 (143.00). Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 7 years old, 950 to 1250 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. 935.00 to 1470.00/pair; 2 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1200 lbs., with 200- to 300-lb. calves 1275.00 to 1400.00/pair.
