Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction, Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 871 head Sept. 27, compared to 1,531 head last week and 1,934 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers traded steady to $2 lower on limited comparable sales. Trade activity and demand were moderate. The offering consisted of mostly unweaned calves. Thunderstorms in the area benefitted recently planted wheat fields. Slaughter cows were mostly steady and bulls were not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 13%, 3% replacements and 84% feeders. The feeder supply included 61% steers and bulls, 39% heifers, with nearly 59% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 450 to 500 lbs., 162.50 to 170.00; lot 528 lbs., 159.00; 600 to 700 lbs., calves, 140.00 to 145.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 140.00 to 143.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 137.75 to 138.00, lot 759 lbs., calves 125.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, lot 377 lbs., 178.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 157.50 to 167.00; lot 579 lbs., 149.50; 600 to 700 lbs., calves, 139.50 to 144.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 136.00 to 138.00, lot 705 lbs., calves, 131.50; lot 756 lbs., 126.00; lot 884 lbs., 123.75. Medium and large frame 2, few 600 to 700 lbs., 125.00 to 135.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 536 lbs., 147.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 573 lbs., 125.00; few 656 lbs., 120.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 359 lbs., 162.00; few 403 lbs., 151.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 135.50 to 147.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 125.00; lot 610 lbs., 135.00; 600 to 700 lbs., calves, 120.00 to 128.50; lot 716 lbs., 132.50; lot 795 lbs., 120.00. Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1550 lbs., 69.00 to 71.50; high dressing, 72.50; low dressing, 65.00 to 67.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1450 lbs., 70.00 to 74.50; high dressing, 75.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 65.50 to 69.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 69.00 to 74.00; high dressing, 74.50 to 77.50; low dressing, 61.00 to 67.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1615 lbs., 88.00; high dressing, individual 1685 lbs., 95.25; low dressing, 1735 to 1885 lbs., 82.00 to 85.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Middle-aged to short and solid mouth 1100 to 1400 lbs., 3 to 9 months, 825.00 to 1110.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young, 1200 lbs., with 100-lb. calf, 1400.00; Aged, 1200 to 1300 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 1150.00 to 1300.00/pair.
