Lexington livestock sales report

The Lexington Livestock Market, Lexington, Neb., reported receipts of 4,555 head Sept. 28, compared to 2,000 head last week and 4,000 head last year, according to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Kearney, Neb.

Compared to last week, steer calves under 450 pounds sold $8 to $10 higher, over 450 pounds sold steady to $3 lower. Heifer calves under 550 pounds sold $2 to $5 higher. There was no recent comparison on yearling feeder cattle. A large crowd of buyers bid readily on calves with moderate bidding on yearling feeders after sharp gains on CME corn board and sharp losses in the cattle pits. Most calves had precondition shots. Slaughter cattle around 500 head sold in the run. The supply included 60% steers with 60% of the run over 600 pounds.
