Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,140 head as of Oct. 22, compared to 955 head last week and 1,181 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves sold $2 to $4 higher with several drafts of attractive quality consignments. Yearling heifers sold firm to $2 higher. Yearling steers were not well tested. Trade activity was moderate to active on good demand. Wheat pastures seemed to be doing well in the area as long rain continued. Slaughter cows sold steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested in a previous sale. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 8 percent, 1 percent replacements and 91 percent feeders. Feeder supply included 52 percent steers and bulls, 48 percent heifers and 46 percent of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 440 to 450 lbs., 180.50 to 183.00, lot 425 lbs., fancy 198.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 167.00 to 180.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 162.00 to 168.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 145.00 to 146.00; lot 620 lb., calves, 144.50; 650 to 700 lbs., calves, 138.00 to 145.00; 700 to 750 lbs., calves, 140.00 to 143.50; lot 810 lbs., calves, 132.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 375 lbs., 190.00; lot 450 lbs., 160.00; lot 550 lbs., 147.00; few 670 lbs., calves, 137.00.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, few 600 lbs., 86.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 490 to 500 lbs., 165.00 to 170.50; few 515 lbs., 158.00; 575 to 600 lbs., 142.50 to 144.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 455 lbs., 150.50; few 670 lbs., 127.00; few 770 lbs., 125.00; few 840 lbs., 105.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 540 to 560 lbs., 130.00 to 135.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 300 to 320 lbs., 173.00 to 174.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 160.00 to 162.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 144.00 to 153.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 134.50 to 140.00, few 590 lbs., fleshy 119.00; lot 610 lbs., calves, 132.00; 680 to 700 lb calves 125.00 to 132.00; 710 to 750 lbs., calves, 123.50 to 125.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 425 lbs., 146.50 to 147.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 129.50 to 134.25; load 720 lbs., 136.50. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80 percent lean, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 74.50 to 76.00; low dressing, 70.25 to 70.50. Boning, 80 to 85 percent lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 74.50 to 78.50; high dressing, 79.00 to 79.50. Lean, 85 to 90 percent lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 72.25 to 77.25; high dressing, 78.00; 800 to 1000 lbs., 69.00; high dressing, 71.00 to 71.50; low dressing, 62.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 to 2, 1800 to 1835 lbs., 87.00 to 92.00; High Dressing 1550 to 2285 lbs., 96.25 to 97.85.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young, 1000 to 1100 lbs., 1 to 6 months bred, 1110.00 to 1145.00; Aged, 1000 to 1100 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 1035.00 per head. Medium and large frame 2, Middle-aged, 800 to 900 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 700.00 to 885.00 per head.
