Amarillo livestock auction summaryThe Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,140 head as of Oct. 22, compared to 955 head last week and 1,181 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo. Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves sold $2 to $4 higher with several drafts of attractive quality consignments. Yearling heifers sold firm to $2 higher. Yearling steers were not well tested. Trade activity was moderate to active on good demand. Wheat pastures seemed to be doing well in the area as long rain continued. Slaughter cows sold steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested in a previous sale. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 8 percent, 1 percent replacements and 91 percent feeders. Feeder supply included 52 percent steers and bulls, 48 percent heifers and 46 percent of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
