Lexington livestock market report

The Lexington Livestock Market, Lexington, Neb., reported receipts of 3,400 head Oct. 19, compared to 2,280 head last week and 1,730 head last year, according to the USDA-Nebraska Department of Agriculture Market News, Kearney, Neb.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to $2 lower. The majority of calves had fall shots and about half were weaned. There were not enough comparable offerings on the feeder steers and heifers to establish a trend. Demand was good from beginning to end from a good crowd of buyers. Around two hundred head of slaughter cattle sold in the mix. The supply included 56% steers, 44% heifers with 49% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 315 to 331 lbs., 196.00 to 198.50 (198.02); 365 to 388 lbs., 192.50 to 197.00 (194.12); 404 to 429 lbs., 178.25 to 190.00 (181.42); 8 head, 401 lbs., 200.00 fancy; 463 to 487 lbs., 168.50 to 178.00 (172.54); 35 head, 461 lbs., 181.00 fancy; 512 to 541 lbs., 158.00 to 168.50 (162.98); 557 to 597 lbs., 155.25 to 165.85 (161.72); 42 head, 556 lbs., 168.50 fancy; 605 to 645 lbs., 154.25 to 157.75 (156.33) calves; 81 head, 606 lbs., 166.75 fancy; 30 head, 695 lbs., 145.00; 651 to 681 lbs., 150.00 to 160.75 (159.31) calves; 5 head, 724 lbs., 153.00 calves; 762 to 777 lbs., 151.00 to 154.85 (153.23) calves; 175 head, 840 lbs., 148.60; 852 to 872 lbs., 142.00 to 148.00 (147.47); 915 to 926 lbs., 144.75 to 147.25 (145.72).
