Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 987 head Oct. 18, compared to 1,120 head last week and 1,647 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, yearling steers sold $3 to $4 higher on comparable sales. Yearling heifers were not well tested in a previous sale. Steer and heifers calves sold steady to firm on a light test. Trade activity was moderate on moderate to good demand. Slaughter cows sold steady to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 7%, 1% replacements and 92% feeders. The feeder supply included 60% steers and bulls, 40% heifers, with nearly 77% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 525 to 550 lbs., 158.50 to 164.50; few 575 lbs., 153.00, few 590 lbs., fleshy 145.50; few 645 lb. calves 143.00; lot 655 lbs., 149.00, few 675 lb. calves 140.00; lot 725 lbs., 144.25, few 740 lb. calves 135.00; lot 775 lbs., 144.50; lot 1000 lbs., 122.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, lot 380 lbs., 178.00; few 485 lbs., 159.50; 500 to 550 lbs., 145.00 to 154.50, lot 565 lbs., fleshy 135.50; lot 620 lbs., 139.00; lot 685 lbs., fleshy 136.00; lot 810 lbs., 135.25, 810 to 840 lbs., fleshy 131.00. Medium and large frame 2, lot 715 lbs., 127.00; few 820 lbs., 120.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 675 lbs., 128.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 540 lbs., 156.00; few 705 lbs., 122.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450 to 475 lbs., 152.00 to 152.50; few 595 lbs., 133.00; lot 685 lbs., 130.00; 775 to 800 lbs., 109.00 to 115.00.

Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1300 lbs., 74.50 to 78.00; high dressing, 79.75 to 80.00; low dressing, 68.50 to 73.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 73.50 to 76.00; high dressing, 78.50 to 79.00; low dressing, 65.00 to 67.50; 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1000 lbs., 72.25; low dressing, 66.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1485 to 1675 lbs., 87.75 to 88.50; low dressing, 1420 to 1760 lbs., 80.25 to 84.50.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, aged 1300 to 1400 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 1100.00 to 1225.00/pair.
