Dalhart livestock auction report


The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,549 head Oct. 18, compared to 2,455 head last week and 3,465 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were mostly firm, except steer calves over 600 pounds were $2 lower. Quality on receipts was mostly attractive with a few plain. Body condition on receipts ranged from mostly moderate to a few fleshy. Slaughter cows were $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady in a light test. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2. 350 to 975-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 10%, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 0%, and feeders 89%. The feeder supply included 55% steers and 45% heifers, with nearly 49% of the run over 600 pounds.

Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 72.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 65.50 to 70.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 73.00 to 74.50; high dressing, 77.00; low dressing, 68.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1200 to 1500 lbs., 71.50 to 73.00; low dressing, 64.00 to 69.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 1900 lbs., 84.50 to 96.00; high dressing, 1900 to 2000 lbs., 97.25 to 100.00.
