Texas direct feeder cattle summary

The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, reported receipts of 22,200 head Oct. 19, compared to 18,900 head last week and 19,100 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week current FOB feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 higher. Attractive prices this week boosted volume on a very active trade. There was a larger supply of yearling heifers this week especially for future delivery. Approximately 99% of this week's cattle weighed over 600 pounds. Approximately 43% of this week's weighted average receipts were steers and 57% heifers. Prices based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent and 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 4 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.

Steers: 9,500 head, 43%, Medium and large frame 1 FOB Price 600 to 700 lbs., 144.00 to 150.50, several loads 650 lbs., 155.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 143.00 to 146.85, load 780 lb. calves 140.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 140.00 to 141.00. Delivered price 700 to 800 lbs., 143.00 to 149.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 139.84 to 146.00. Future delivery, FOB price 650 lbs., 152.60 January; 750 lbs., 150.77 February. Delivered price 750 to 800 lbs., 143.30 to 149.15 November; 750 to 800 lbs., 143.00 to 150.60 December; 750 to 800 lbs., 146.20 to 151.55 January. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, FOB price 700 to 800 lbs., 138.00 to 140.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 136.00 to 138.00. Delivered price 700 to 725 lbs., 137.00 to 137.50.

Heifers: 12,700 head, 57%, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price 650 lbs., 145.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 138.00 to 141.17. Delivered price 600 to 700 lbs., 139.00 to 142.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 138.00 to 147.00. Future delivery FOB price 700 to 725 lbs., 139.90 to 144.40 November to December; 650 to 700 lbs., 142.15 to 146.70 January; 700 to 725 lbs., 143.65 to 143.85 January; 700 lbs., 145.77 February. Delivered price 700 to 725 lbs., 140.00 to 147.50 November to December; 625 lbs., 149.40 January; 700 to 725 lbs., 140.70 to 147.65 January to March. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, FOB price 675 lbs., 132.17. Delivered price 700 lbs., 136.50.
