Teacher of the Year award program expands

Kansas

Kansas Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture has teamed with Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom and High Plains Journal in an exciting enhancement to the Teacher of the Year program. The Excellence in Teaching Regional Awards will be an opportunity for more teachers to be recognized around the state. KFAC and Kansas Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture will select five regional winners and from those five, an overall winner to represent the Janet Sims Teacher of the Year award.

Each of the five regional winners of the Kansas Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture Excellence in Teaching Regional Awards will be recognized at the 2013 Ag Day festivities in Topeka and the four runners-up will each be awarded a $600 scholarship to apply toward attending the 2013 National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference in Minneapolis, Minn. The winner will be fully sponsored by High Plains Journal to attend the conference. If the winner or a runner-up can't attend the national conference, a $200 gift certificate will be issued for the teacher to purchase agriculture education supplies for his or her classroom.

The Janet Sims Memorial Teacher of the Year recognizes a Kansas teacher for his or her efforts to incorporate agriculture into the classroom. Any district certified Kansas teacher currently engaged in integrating agricultural concepts into a non-vocational classroom setting at the K-12 level is encouraged to apply.

The Oct. 24 deadline for the Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom's teacher of the year award is quickly approaching, so apply now.

Interested teachers are encouraged to apply, and additional information and applications are available on the KFAC website: www.ksagclassroom.org.

The Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom is a 501(c)(3) organization that seeks to involve Kansans of all ages in understanding the fundamental impact of agriculture on their everyday lives. By providing resources to Kansas teachers, KFAC connects classrooms to Kansas agriculture.
