Amarillo livestock auction summary


The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,041 head Oct. 8, compared to 692 head last week and 817 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves sold steady to firm on a very limited test. Trade activity was moderate on moderate to good demand. Most interest was shown in weaned and vaccinated calves to help reduce sickness especially since a cold front came into the area. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady although bulls were lightly tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 13%, 6% replacements and 81% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 47% steers and bulls, 53% heifers, with nearly 65% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 275 to 300 lbs., 197.00 to 208.00; few 335 lbs., 195.00; few 390 lbs., 186.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 165.50 to 179.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 153.50 to 156.00; lots 586 lbs., 147.00 to 147.50; few 651 lb. calves 144.00; few 780 lb. calves 132.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, lot 370 lbs., 174.00; few 473 lbs., 160.00; lot 631 lb. calves 144.00; lot 735 lb. calves 127.00; lot 774 lbs., 135.50; few 902 lbs., 129.25. Medium and large frame 2, few 780 lbs., 130.50; few 865 lbs., 126.00. Holsteins, Large frame 3, lot 495 lbs., 75.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 510 lbs., 130.00; few 650 to 700 lb. calves 120.00 to 122.50; lot 700 lb. calves 118.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 830 lbs., 116.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 320 lbs., 171.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 159.00 to 169.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 146.00 to 157.00; 525 to 550 lbs., 142.00 to 143.00; 575 to 600 lbs., 133.50 to 137.00; few 660 lb. calves 125.00; few 960 lbs., 102.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 290 lbs., 157.00; 600 to 610 lb. calves or fleshy 122.50 to 130.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 129.00 to 136.00, calves or fleshy 122.50 to 124.00; few 773 lbs., 124.50; few 850 lbs., fleshy 107.00. Medium and large frame 2, lot 640 lb. calves 119.50; few 757 lbs., 120.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1700 lbs., 73.00 to 77.00; high dressing, 78.00 to 80.00; low dressing, 65.00 to 70.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 74.50 to 79.00; high dressing, 81.00 to 83.50; low dressing, 73.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 76.50 to 77.75; high dressing, 78.50 to 82.50; low dressing, 74.75; 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1000 lbs., 71.00; low dressing, 65.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, high dressing, 1812 lbs., 99.00; low dressing, 1415 to 2075 lbs., 84.25 to 88.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young 1000 to 1100 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 935.00 to 1010.00; Aged to Short and Solid Mouth, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 9 months, 950.00 to 1150.00/head. Small frame 2, Young, 1000 lbs., 3 to 6 months, 860.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young to Short and Solid Mouth, 1000 to 1300 lbs., with 75- to 200-lb. calves, 1060.00 to 1350.00/pair.
