McAlester livestock market reportThe McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,580 head Oct. 9, compared to 2,430 head last week and 3,125 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, steers were $2 to $6 higher. Heifers under 550 pounds were steady to $8 higher, over 550 pounds were $1 to $5 lower. Quality was average to attractive. The supply included 31% over 600 pounds, with 46% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher, except Boner cows were $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were $2 lower. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 350 cows and bulls sold with 64% going to packers.
