Ft. Smith livestock auction reportThe Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 781 head Oct. 8, compared to 747 head last week and 868 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark. Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2 lower. Feeder steers uneven, mostly $2 to $4 higher. Feeder heifers under 450 pounds were $5 to $7 higher, over 450 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. The supply included 410 feeder calves, 245 feeder yearlings, 44 replacement cows, 76 slaughter cows, 6 slaughter bulls, and no replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply was about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 70.00 to 74.50; high dressing, 75.00 to 79.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 74.00 to 78.50; high dressing, 79.00 to 83.50; low dressing, 69.00 to 73.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 72.00 to 76.50; high dressing, 77.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 67.00 to 71.50. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 55.00 to 59.50; low dressing, 60.00 to 64.00. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 92.00 to 93.00; high dressing, 95.00 to 98.00.
