Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 1,301 head Oct. 4, compared to 871 head last week and 1,031 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared with last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher. Trade and demand were moderate. Slaughter cows were $2 to $4 higher, slaughter bulls not established. Best demand centered on long-weaned calves and yearlings. Rains over the last couple weeks benefitted grass pastures and wheat fields. The bulk of the receipts were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 8%, 1% replacements and 91% feeders. The feeder supply included 76% steers and bulls, 24% heifers, with approximately 79% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 275 lbs., 214.00; few 370 lbs., 181.00; part load 405 lbs., 186.50, few 455 lbs., 177.00; few 509 lbs., 164.25, few 540 lbs., 159.00, few 595 lbs., fleshy 149.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves 145.00 to 149.35; few 700 to 760 lb. calves 142.50 to 145.00; few 903 lbs., 129.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 646 lb. calves 140.00; few 721 lbs., 139.00, string 754 lbs., 146.00, part load 778 lbs., 135.75; few 802 lbs., 132.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 700 to 750 lbs., 130.00 to 131.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 398 lbs., 155.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 150.00 to 170.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 130.00 to 152.00; few 691 lbs., 111.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 113.50 to 115.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 325 lbs., 164.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 150.00 to 154.00, few 498 lbs., fleshy 131.50; 500 to 525 lbs., 142.00 to 145.50, 540 to 600 lbs., 125.00; few 600 to 650 lb. calves 120.00 to 124.00, 650 to 700 lb. calves 130.00 to 135.50; 775 to 800 lbs., 125.00 to 128.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 400 to 450 lbs., 136.50 to 141.00; few 517 lbs., 135.00; few 668 lbs., fleshy 118.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 353 lbs., 115.00; few 689 lbs., 123.50. Medium and large frame 3, few 634 lbs., 100.50; few 785 lbs., 98.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 75.00 to 76.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 74.00 to 79.00; high dressing, 79.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 70.00 to 73.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 75.00 to 76.50; high dressing, 79.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 66.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 69.00 to 76.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, individual 750 lbs., 91.00; low dressing, individual 2315 lbs., 85.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2 , middle-aged 1050 to 1450 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 1060.00 to 1235.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1200 to 1450 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 1035.00 to 1485.00/pair.
