Youths awarded scholarships

Nebraska

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture awarded scholarships to two returning delegates at the 41st annual Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute.

Dann Husmann, Ph.D., the associate dean of UNL's College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources, presented the scholarships to Jared McKeever of Wymore and Samantha Schneider of Cozad. They were each awarded a $600 scholarship to utilize when they began school at UNL this fall.

"We are excited to partner with CASNR to offer these scholarships to these two deserving delegates," said Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council Advisor Christin Kamm. "We greatly appreciate CASNR's willingness to sponsor these scholarships, and are pleased that both Jared and Samantha plan to pursue degrees in agriculture."

This year marked the 12th year the scholarships have been awarded during NAYI. McKeever and Schneider were selected by the members of the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council based upon their demonstrated leadership, interest in agriculture and the good example that they provided to the other NAYI delegates throughout the five-day conference.

Nearly 160 high school participants gathered on UNL's East Campus to discuss agricultural policy, listen to motivational speakers, and learn more about careers in agriculture.
