Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,343 head Oct. 4, compared to 3,396 head last week and 2,834 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 700 pounds were $3 to $4 higher, over 700 pounds were mostly $2 higher. Instances of plainer and fleshy kinds of feeder heifers at 550 to 650 pounds were $3 to $5 lower. Quality on receipts was mostly attractive with a few plain. Body condition on receipts ranged from mostly moderate to a few fleshy. Slaughter cows and bulls were $3 to $4 higher. Trade was active. Demand was mostly good on all weight and quality categories. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 15%, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 0%, and feeders 84%. The feeder supply included 58% steers and 42% heifers, with nearly 41% of the run over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 425 lbs., 161.00 to 169.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 156.00 to 158.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 150.00 to 154.00; 600 to 700 lbs., calves 134.00 to 136.00, few 679 lbs., thin 145.00; few 800 to 825 lbs., 134.00 to 138.00; few 930 lbs., 128.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 73.50 to 75.50; high dressing, 77.00 to 78.75; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 72.00 to 76.00; low dressing, 64.00 to 67.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1500 to 1700 lbs., 74.00 to 76.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 72.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 64.50 to 66.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1100 to 1800 lbs., 87.50 to 91.50; high dressing, 1600 to 2100 lbs., 94.00 to 94.75.
