Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 1,954 head Oct. 3, compared to 2,160 head last week and 2,748 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 500 pounds were $2 to $3 higher, heavier weights mostly steady in fairly light test. Yearling cattle were not established. Demand was good for calves in moderate to thin flesh, moderate at best for fleshy and un-weaned calves. Quality was average to attractive. Heifers made up 44% of supply and 17% of offerings were over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $1 higher. Packer demand was good. A total of 471 cows and bulls sold with 77% going to packers.

Lean, 108 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 71.00 to 74.50; high dressing, 75.50 to 80.50; low dressing, 65.50 to 70.00. Lights, 84 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 1000 lbs., 62.00 to 65.00; high dressing, 67.00 to 73.50; low dressing, 57.00 to 61.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 27 head, 1350 to 2075 lbs., 92.00 to 95.00; high dressing, 97.00 to 99.00; low dressing, 87.50 to 91.00.

Replacement cows: 3 to 5 years old, 1000 to 1150 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average black, 1000.00 to 1200.00; 4 to 5 years old, 1100 to 1125 lbs., 7 months bred, high quality, 1380.00; 5 to 7 years old, 950 to 1125 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 850.00 to 1010.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 1150 to 1250 lbs., with 250- to 300-lb. calves, high black, 1440.00 to 1540.00; 6 to 7 years old, 1150 to 1150 lbs., with 200- to 225-lb. calves, average black, 1290.00 to 1340.00.
