McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,200 head Sept. 25, compared to 1,900 head last week and 2,400 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steers were $1 to $5 lower. Heifers were steady to $3 lower, except heifers under 400 pounds were $9 lower. Quality was average to attractive. The supply included 25% over 600 pounds, 50% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $4 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. A total of 260 cows and bulls sold with 73% going to packers.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 925 to 1175 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 960.00 to 1150.00; 5 to 6 years old, 900 to 1075 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, low to average quality, 810.00 to 1000.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1075 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average to high quality, 990.00 to 1210.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1000 to 1225 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 910.00 to 1170.00; 9 to 10 years old, 900 to 975 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, low quality, 860.00 to 890.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 950 to 1100 lbs., with 125- to 200-lb. calves, average quality, 1030.00 to 1110.00.
