Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 4,460 head Sept. 20, compared to 2,405 head last week and 4,668 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 400 pounds and feeder heifers under 600 pounds were $3 to $5 lower. Steers over 400 pounds and heifers over 600 pounds were firm. Fleshy unweaned heifers over 450 pounds were especially hard to find a new home for. Quality on receipts ranged from plain to attractive. Body condition on receipts ranged from mostly fleshy to a few thin. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $2 lower. Trade and demand was mostly moderate on fleshy kinds to good on the few gaunt or thin offerings. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 825-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 15%, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 84%. The feeder supply included 59% steers and 41% heifers, with nearly 55% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 71.00 to 76.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 71.00 to 75.50; low dressing, 65.00 to 68.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1785 lbs., 95.00; low dressing, 1100 to 1600 lbs., 81.00 to 85.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Middle aged to aged, 1200 to 1250 lbs., with 270- to 350-lb. calves 1275.00 to 1325.00/pair.
