Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 1,753 head Sept. 19, compared to 1,972 head last week and 2,976 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 500 pounds were $3 to $6 higher. Steers over 500 pounds were $1 to $3 higher. Heifers over 500 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Yearling cattle were lightly tested but had no recent test for comparison. Demand was very good for long-weaned calves, moderate for fleshy and un-weaned calves. Overall quality was average to attractive. Fills were mostly average. Heifers made up 7% of supply and weights over 600 pounds made up 23%. Slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were steady in a light test. Packer demand was good. A total of 558 cows and bulls sold with 64% going to packers.

Lean, 125 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1225 lbs., 76.50 to 79.00; high dressing, 80.00 to 80.50; low dressing, 72.00 to 75.00; very low dressing, 63.50 to 71.50. Lights, 27 head, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 71.00 to 74.00; high dressing, 77.00; low dressing, 63.00 to 68.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 12 head, 1350 to 1875 lbs., 95.50 to 98.50; high dressing, 101.00; low dressing, 91.00 to 93.00; very low, 83.00 to 87.50.

Replacement cows: 5 to 7 years old, 925 to 1200 lbs., 3 to 4 months bred, average black, 930.00 to 1050.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average black, 1010.00 to 1350.00; 8 to 10 years old, 1350 to 1400 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, average black, 1080.00 to 1110.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 7 years old, 925 to 1225 lbs., with 200- to 350-lb. calves, average black, 1200.00 to 1485.00.
