National Jersey Queen to be selected

The 58th National Jersey Queen will be selected Nov. 3 at the conclusion of Junior Day activities at The All American Jersey Shows and Sale in Louisville, Ky.

The 2012 National Jersey Queen will begin her reign when she is introduced with a court of two alternates at the National Jersey Jug Futurity on Nov. 4. Later that evening, the new Queen and her Court will assist with The 60th All American Jersey Sale, then preside over the Diamond Anniversary of The All American Jersey Show, the world's largest Jersey show, on Nov. 5.

She will succeed the reigning Queen, Cassandra Krull of Lake Mills, Wis.

Scholarships totaling $1,000 are presented to the Queen and alternates from the Charlene Nardone National Jersey Queen Fund.

Participants in the National Jersey Queen Contest must meet three requirements. First, they must be at least 16 years of age, but not older than 22, on Jan. 1, 2012. Second, they must be either the current year's or a former state or regional Jersey queen, or an exhibitor in the 2012 Western National Junior Jersey Show or The All American Junior Jersey Show. Third, they must be a Junior Member in good standing or Lifetime Member of the American Jersey Cattle Association.

Candidates for National Jersey Queen are evaluated on the quality of their application, interview, general dairy and Jersey breed knowledge, and public speaking, both prepared and extemporaneous. Each of the contest elements is described on the USJersey website at www.usjersey.com/YouthProgram/natlqueen.htm.

Applications must be received in the AJCA office on or before Oct. 15. Judging begins on Nov. 2.

The National Jersey Queen represents the Jersey community throughout the year at local, state and national events, including the 2013 AJCA-NAJ Annual Meetings, June 24 to 29 in Amarillo, Texas.

For more information about participating in or supporting the National Jersey Queen development program, contact Cherie L. Bayer, director of development, at 614-322-4456 or cbayer@usjersey.com with "National Queen Contest" in the subject line.
