Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,126 head Oct. 29, compared to 1,140 head last week and 901 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves sold mostly steady on several drafts of high quality and uniform consignments. Yearling heifers sold weak to $2 lower. Yearling steers were not well tested in a previous sale. Trade activity was moderate to active on moderate to good demand. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 8%, 1% replacements and 91% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 51% steers and bulls, 49% heifers, with nearly 61% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 400 lbs., 205.00 to 217.00; few 435 lbs., 197.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 160.00 to 164.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 156.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 146.00 to 152.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves 142.00 to 148.00; lot 737 lb. calves 138.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 341 lbs., 191.00; few 545 lbs., 148.00; few 602 lb. calves 143.50; load 703 lbs., 143.50; few 927 lbs., 125.00; few 967 lbs., 115.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 337 lbs., 170.00; few 617 lbs., 133.00; few 750 lbs., 127.50. Holsteins, Large frame 3, few 656 lbs., 80.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 430 lbs., 165.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 140.00 to 146.00; few 600 to 625 lb. calves 132.00 to 133.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 535 lbs., 136.00; few 752 lbs., 124.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 393 lbs., 162.00; lot 426 lbs., 159.50; 450 to 500 lbs., 145.00 to 157.25; 500 to 600 lbs., 138.50 to 147.00; 600 to 650 lb. calves 128.50 to 131.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 451 lbs., 148.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 132.00 to 141.00; lot 668 lb. calves 121.00; load 749 lbs., 134.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 450 lbs., 130.00; few 645 lbs., 126.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, lot 599 lbs., 121.00; few 756 lbs., 119.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1450 lbs., 71.00 to 74.50; low dressing, 65.00 to 69.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1450 lbs., 73.00 to 78.00; high dressing, 79.00; low dressing, 70.00 to 72.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 72.25 to 76.50; high dressing, 78.00; low dressing, 66.00 to 70.60; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 57.50 to 63.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, individual 2125 lbs., 87.00; low dressing, 1520 to 1910 lbs., 75.50 to 83.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young 925 to 1150 lbs., 1 to 3 months bred, 1050.00 to 1150.00, 3 to 6 months bred, 1200.00 to 1210.00/head. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, Young 725 to 850 lbs., 1 to 6 months bred, 735.00 to 800.00/head.
