Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 5,080 head Oct. 25, compared to 3,726 head last week and 3,375 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder lambs under 70 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, 70 to 99 pounds were steady to $2 lower, over 100 pounds were steady to $3 higher, slaughter ewes were $3 to $4 lower. Good demand for many long strings of feeder lambs and slaughter ewes which sold on an active market. Good demand for several packages of ewe lambs. The offering consisted of 58% feeder lambs, 28% slaughter ewes, 14% open replacement ewes. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 382 head, 166 lbs., 38.75 to 39.00 (38.80). Good 3 to 4, fleshy, 22 head, 170 lbs., 35.25; 11 head, 201 lbs., 36.00. Utility 1 to 2, Medium, 145 to 151 lbs., 38.75 to 39.25 (39.02). Cull 1, thin, 306 head, 134 lbs., 36.00. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1, 112 head, 86 lbs., 98.00 ewe lambs. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 52 to 59 lbs., 119.50 to 125.50 (122.48); 61 to 65 lbs., 112.00 to 121.00 (118.05); 70 to 78 lbs., 95.00 to 105.00 (98.80); 40 head, 70 lbs., 108.00 ewe lambs; 80 to 89 lbs., 89.25 to 92.75 (90.60); 90 to 99 lbs., 86.75 to 95.50 (91.41); 100 to 106 lbs., 87.00 to 94.00 (88.20).
