American Lamb Board appointments namedSecretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack recently announced four appointments to the 2013 American Lamb Board. Each appointee will serve a three-year term starting at the Board's annual meeting in January 2013. The newly appointed Board Member is Angelo "Butch" Theos, of Meeker, Colo., representing producers. Butch is a third-generation sheep rancher who runs over 4,000 head of sheep with his son Tony Theos, owners and operators of Theo's Swallow Fork Ranch. Butch has served on the American Sheep Industry Association's executive board as well as the Colorado Wool Growers Association's board. Reappointed to the board are the following three members: Betty Sampsel, Stanford, Mont., representing producers; Daniel Lippert, Blomkest, Minn., representing feeders; and William "Reed" Anderson, Brownsville, Ore., representing first handlers. The board is composed of six producers, three feeders, one seedstock producer, three first handlers, and a member of the general public. The Secretary of Agriculture appoints one-third of all board members each year. "I'm extremely honored to represent producers on the American Lamb Board," said Theos. "There are many exciting promotion programs underway, and I'm encouraged that American chefs and consumers are seeing the benefits of our domestically produced lamb." The American Lamb Board is a national promotion, research and information organization whose purpose is to strengthen the position of lamb and lamb products in domestic and foreign markets.
