West Plains regional cattle sales report

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Mo., reported 1,550 head Nov. 20, compared to 2,682 head last week and 1,436 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, too few in most classes and weight ranges for an adequate price comparison. Although a limited supply of steer calves sold weak to $2 lower, with a few 5 weights $3 to $5 lower. However, heifer mates were steady to mostly $2 higher. Supply was light, even though there were a few smaller groups of higher quality calves on hand, most were small packages and singles for buyers to build loads around, the main feature being 3 loads of Holstein steers for this week's Pre-Holiday sale. Demand was moderate to good with several buyers out this week, however those that were in the market were fairly active, especially in the heifer and Holstein alleys, but on the other hand that's where numbers or load lots could be gathered. The supply consisted of 28% steers, 23% Holsteins, 7% bulls and 42% heifers, with around 42% over 600 pounds.
