Aberdeen livestock auction report

The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, S.D., reported receipts of 1,081 head Nov. 20 compared to 7,609 head last week and 4,159 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

This was a limited comparison. Feeder steers at 400 to 500 pounds sold $6 to $7 higher, 500 to 550 pounds sold $2 to $3 higher, and steers at 600 to 700 pounds sold $4 to $6 lower. Heifers at 400 to 500 pounds sold $4 to $6 higher, heifers 500 to 550 pounds sold $1 higher, and 550 to 600 pounds sold steady to $2 lower. Weight classes not specifically mentioned did not have ample volume for an accurate test. This was an active market with good demand especially for lighter calves. Steers were 62%, and heifers 38% of the total, with 32% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 17 head, 364 to 389 lbs., 189.00 to 192.00 (190.54); 443 to 448 lbs., 171.00 to 182.50 (180.56); 452 to 487 lbs., 177.00 to 186.00 (183.04); 505 to 548 lbs., 159.00 to 172.00 (167.93); 557 to 579 lbs., 153.00 to 161.75 (156.77); 608 to 625 lbs., 153.00 to 155.00 (154.55) calves; 653 to 677 lbs., 147.75 to 152.00 (149.70) calves; 10 head, 807 lbs., 143.50; 51 head, 938 lbs., 139.10.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 10 head, 378 lbs., 160.00; 423 to 449 lbs., 156.00 to 161.00 (158.42); 452 to 479 lbs., 155.00 to 160.00 (157.71); 510 to 534 lbs., 144.50 to 152.50 (146.75); 562 to 589 lbs., 142.00 to 148.00 (146.05); 17 head, 606 lbs., 145.25 calves; 7 head, 942 lbs., 131.00.
