Dry conditions concerning to wheat cropColorado Colorado received some snow during the week ending Nov. 11 but the coverage was limited, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Colorado Field Office, Nov. 13. The majority of the state received no precipitation. Dry conditions were encouraged by higher than average temperatures generating concern for the condition of the winter wheat crop. Soil moisture ratings continue to show that extremely dry conditions persist. Farmers were allowed 6.0 days in the field for operations. Winter wheat emergence reached 90 percent last week compared with 96 percent for the 5-year average. The crop ranged from poor to good condition. Corn progressed to 97 percent harvested, 15 points ahead of the 5-year average. The dry, sunny days helped sorghum harvest reach 80 percent harvested. Sugarbeet harvest winds down with 98 percent harvested by week's end. Sunflower harvest progressed to 88 percent complete. The condition of pasture land is rated mostly very poor to poor across the state. The condition of livestock was rated fair to good at the end of last week. Death losses for cattle and sheep were average. Stored feed supplies continue to be rated as short for this time of year. Date: 11/19/2012
