Read Ephesians 4:30-32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
--Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)
Several months ago, I was playing a card game with my nephew. While playing the game, I remembered how he had been wrongly accused of doing something at school, and I reminded him of it. From my point of view, my nephew had a right to be angry at being treated unjustly. But he wasn't angry at all, and his forgiveness was quick. "It's ok, they make mistakes."
Sometimes our pain goes a lot deeper than being falsely accused, and sometimes forgiveness can feel impossible. But God never gives us a command without giving us grace and strength to obey it.
My nephew's example encourages me to be as forgiving as he is. With God's grace and strength, I can forgive others as Christ has forgiven me.
Dear God, when someone hurts us, help us to remember how much you have forgiven us. Take our pain and give us your grace to forgive others as you have forgiven us, as we pray, "Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation." * Amen.
*Luke 11:2-4 (NIV).
Thought for the Day
Forgiveness frees both the one being forgiven and the one who forgives.
