National Bison Association partners with Nationwide
Bison producers in the United States will have increased access to competitive property and liability insurance coverage beginning Oct. 1 under a new partnership agreement established between the National Bison Association and Nationwide Agribusiness.
Bison industry leaders have been working with Nationwide Agribusiness over the past year to identify insurance coverage options targeted to the unique characteristics of buffalo ranching.
"This is a true partnership program," said Dave Carter, National Bison Association executive director. "The Nationwide Agribusiness team began by interviewing a cross-section of bison producers. Then, they worked with us to tailor a portfolio of products to address those insurance needs."
Brad Snyder, marketing director for Nationwide Agribusiness, added, "The bison business is rapidly emerging as a major segment in the alternative agricultural economy. We know that bison ranchers needs much of the same coverage as traditional livestock producers, but also have some unique risk management needs. We're pleased to be able to work with the National Bison Association to address those needs."
Snyder added that Nationwide Agribusiness was particularly pleased with the commitment that the National Bison Association and its members have to reducing the risk management exposure on buffalo farms and ranches.
"The work that the association is conducting in terms of education and outreach on safe animal handling and overall risk reduction strategies is very encouraging," Snyder said.
Carter said, "We are a very diverse business. Some enterprises focus solely on commercial production of bison. Others combine bison ranching with agritourism. We feel that producers across the spectrum will be able to find quality, affordable coverage under this new program."
