Beef cattle conference set for Dec. 3 to 4

South Dakota

Utilizing advancing technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of beef production is the theme of a conference set for Dec. 3 and 4 at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The conference gets under way at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 3 with a session devoted to understanding how to profit and produce better quality beef by implementing reproductive technologies. Sessions will continue with the importance and control of estrus, male fertility, and genetics. The day concludes with hands-on activities where participants can become more familiar with several of the topics discussed.

The Dec. 4 sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. Speakers will address nutrition-reproduction interactions, stress management, vaccination, and advancing technologies (including gender-selected semen, embryo transfer programs, and the future of pregnancy determination in cattle).

The conference is being coordinated by The Beef Reproduction Leadership Team, South Dakota State University, and iGrow.org. Details are available at the conference website, http://muconf.missouri.edu/ARSBC-SouthDakota, or ask your Extension field specialist for details.

The fee is $200 after Nov. 1. Those planning to attend can reserve rooms at the conference rate of $89.99 plus tax by calling the Best Western Ramkota in Sioux Falls at 605-336-0650. Be sure to ask for the Applied Reproductive Strategies in Beef Cattle conference rate.

For more information, contact SDSU Extension Beef Reproduction Management Specialist George Perry at 605-688-5456 or George.Perry@sdstate.edu.
