Study groups prepare applicants for CDL
A free study group in Powell will help steer applicants toward their Commercial Driver License, and other groups are planned in three other northwest Wyoming communities.
UW Extension and Northwest College are offering the CDL study group 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 to 16 in the multi-purpose room at the Park County Fairgrounds in Powell.
Other study groups will start Nov. 26 in Burlington, Dec. 3 in Worland, Jan. 7 in Powell, Jan. 21 in Burlington and Feb. 4 in Riverton.
The groups will provide study materials, direct participants to regional resources, review instructional materials provided by the Wyoming Department of Transportation and include local farmers/ranchers in the hands-on practical aspects of learning.
The goal is to help prepare participants for the written and vehicle inspection tests, said Sandra Frost, UW Extension educator in Powell. The class does not include driving practice.
The morning sessions cover the Wyoming Driver License Manual for Commercial and Heavy Vehicles. Those desiring Class B information should plan on attending Monday through Wednesday. Those desiring Class A information should plan on attending Monday through Friday.
After lunch, participants learn and practice truck inspections. The Wyoming Highway Patrol is sending a motor carrier trooper to share information with the class. The Powell Volunteer Fire Department will discuss hazardous materials.
