McAlester livestock market report


The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,610 head Nov. 6, compared to 1,980 head last week and 1,400 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steers were $2 to $4 lower. Heifers were $1 to $6 higher. Quality was plain to average, few attractive. The supply included 28% over 600 pounds, 50% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $3 higher, except boner cows were $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were $5 higher in a light test. Packer demand was good. A total of 410 cows and bulls sold with 50% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 10 head, 1400 to 2200 lbs., 93.00 to 96.00; high dressing, 97.00 to 101.00; low dressing, 88.00 to 92.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 1000 to 1325 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average to high quality, 1060.00 to 1270.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1250 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, high quality, 1200.00 to 1350.00; 5 to 6 years old, 950 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 1010.00 to 1175.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1125 to 1225 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, high quality, 1020.00 to 1300.00. 7 to 8 years old, 1025 to 1375 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred average quality, 940.00 to 1185.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1025 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 920.00 to 1000.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1250 lbs., with 175- to 250-lb. calves, high quality 1250.00 to 1425.00; 5 to 8 years old, 900 to 1275 lbs., with 150- to 300-lb. calves, average quality, 1080.00 to 1200.00.
