Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 5,429 head Nov. 1, compared to 5,080 head last week and 4,367 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder lambs under 70 pounds were steady to $3 higher, 70 to 89 pounds were $10 to $15 higher, over 90 pounds were $3 to $6 higher. Good slaughter ewes were $2 to $3 lower. Utility ewes were $4 to $5 lower and cull ewes were $6 higher. Very good demand for many long strings of feeder lambs and one long string of ewe lambs which sold on a very active market, moderate demand for one long string and several packages of replacement ewes which sold on a moderate market. The offering consisted of 65% feeder lambs, 27% slaughter ewes, 8% replacement ewes. Slaughter lambs: Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 41 head, 144 lbs., 86.25. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 168 to 182 lbs., 34.00 to 36.00 (34.41). Utility 1 to 2, Medium, 151 to 154 lbs., 33.00 to 34.25 (33.91). Cull 1, Thin, 316 head, 137 lbs., 42.25. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1, 354 head, 79 lbs., 120.00 ewe lambs; 378 head, 80 lbs., 113.50.
