Ada livestock market report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 1,656 head Oct. 31, compared to 2,056 head last week and 2,394 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer calves were steady. Heifer calves under 500 pounds were fully steady, and over 500 pounds were steady to $3 lower. Demand was moderate to good for good quality cattle, light to moderate for plainer offerings. Overall quality this week was mostly plain to average. Fills were average to full. Dry conditions were limiting wheat pasture development and also pressuring demand for calves. Heifers made up 39% of offerings and cattle over 600 pounds made up 27% of the supply. Slaughter cows were steady, bulls were steady in very light test. Packer demand was good. The offering included 385 cows and bulls, with 63% going to packers. Stock cow demand was good but the overall quality of offerings was generally plain.
