New Mexico

New Mexico State University's Chile Pepper Institute will host the 2012 New Mexico Chile Conference Feb. 6 and 7 at the Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces. The annual event is geared toward chile growers, processors and producers and is designed to deliver practical solutions for the chile industry.

Gary Nabhan, a research social scientist based at the University of Arizona's Southwest Center, will speak on chile peppers, climate change and water scarcity in the Southwestern U.S. Attendees will also hear about research solutions for disease and pest management, learn the latest updates on mechanical cleaning, see current NMSU research poster displays and have a chance to visit commercial booths.

Preregistration is $95 and must be postmarked by Jan. 30. Registration is available online at www.chilepepperinstitute.org, by phone at 575-646-3028 or by fax at 575-646-6041. Registration includes conference activities, a welcome reception and silent auction Feb. 6, as well as lunch, coffee breaks, and a social hour and poster session following the afternoon speakers on Feb. 7. Monday's welcome reception will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres, a no-host bar and the annual silent auction. Hotel accommodations must be made separately.
