Wyo. producers claim World Forage Analysis Superbowl prizes

Wyoming

Wyoming producers claimed the World Champion Forage Producer prize and championships in three other hay categories in the World Forage Analysis Superbowl at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis., in October.

Winners were: World Champion Forage Producer, Kelli Hinman, Wheatland; Commercial Hay Champion, Hardrock Farms, Wheatland; Grass Hay Champion, Danko Farms, Powell; Champion First Time Entrant; and Bethany Bappe, Riverton.

Entries in the 2011 superbowl were the winners in the open hay show at the Wyoming State Fair and Rodeo in August.

Five other Wyoming entries placed in the top 10 in various categories. An entry from Powell last year won the commercial hay division and five others had placed in the top 10.

Anowar Islam, assistant professor and forage agroecologist at the University of Wyoming, selected the winners at the Wyoming fair.

"I am very pleased seeing these results for the second consecutive year," said Islam, in the Department of Plant Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

"Wyoming hay producers were encouraged seeing last year's results, and we are expected to receive more quality hay in the coming years' hay shows. This will ultimately encourage Wyoming producers to produce high-quality and international-standard hay."
