Grains start week with solid gains

Grains started out the week with solid gains with soybeans leading the way sharply higher, according to the National Grain Market Summary, Jan. 9.

Weather in South America saw no relief over the weekend and continues to be to be hot and dry in key growing areas. Estimates for corn and soybeans also call for below expectations. Wheat followed grains higher and continue to follow the dollar index as well.

Wheat closed mostly 17 to 18 cents higher. Corn traded 4 to 9 cents higher. Soybeans closed mostly 36 cents higher.

In the futures close, Kansas City March wheat was $6.98, up 18 cents.

Terminal wheat bids, paid for truck delivery, included Kansas City, $6.73, up 18 cents; Minneapolis, $8.44 3/4, up 8 3/4 cents; Portland, $6.10 to $6.30, up 5 to 15 cents; St. Louis, $6.54, up 17 cents.

Terminal corn bids, U.S. No. 2 yellow, price paid for truck deliver, included: Kansas City, $6.64 to $6.69, up 4 to 7 cents; Minneapolis, no bids; southern Iowa, $6.32 to $6.39, up 8 1/2 cents; Omaha, $6.42 to $6.43, up 9 to 8 cents.

Terminal soybean bids, U.S. No. 1, price paid for truck delivery, included: Kansas City, $12.23, up 36 cents; Minneapolis, no bids; southern Iowa, $12.03 to $12.09, up 36 1/2 cents; central Illinois processors, $12.23 to $12.29, up 36 1/2 cents.

Kansas City wheat prices Jan. 10 spot, fob track, included: No. 1 hard red winter wheat, ordinary protein, $7.58 to $8.09, unchanged; 12% protein, $8.03 to $8.24, down 1 cent to unchanged; 13% protein, $8.18 to $8.48, down 4 cents to unchanged; 14% protein, $8.53 to $8.68, down 10 cents. U.S. No. 2 soft red winter wheat was $6.32 to $6.92, unchanged. U.S. No. 2 white corn was $7.83 to $7.97, unchanged.
