Texas Direct feeder cattle summary
The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, reported receipts of 18,900 head Jan. 27, compared to 47,100 head last week and 26,400 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were firm to $4 higher with the largest increases on 700- to 750-pound steers. The bulk of the trade was $2 to $3 higher. Approximately 95% of this week's cattle weighed over 600 pounds. Approximately 57% of this week's weighted average receipts were steers and 43% heifers. Prices were based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent and 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 4 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery. Steers: 7,800 head, 57%, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price 700 to 725 lbs., 151.00 to 152.00; 750 to 775 lbs., 144.00 to 153.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 145.00 to 146.30; 870 lbs., 142.00.
