Texas Direct feeder cattle summary

The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, reported receipts of 18,900 head Jan. 27, compared to 47,100 head last week and 26,400 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were firm to $4 higher with the largest increases on 700- to 750-pound steers. The bulk of the trade was $2 to $3 higher. Approximately 95% of this week's cattle weighed over 600 pounds. Approximately 57% of this week's weighted average receipts were steers and 43% heifers. Prices were based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent and 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 4 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.

Steers: 7,800 head, 57%, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price 700 to 725 lbs., 151.00 to 152.00; 750 to 775 lbs., 144.00 to 153.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 145.00 to 146.30; 870 lbs., 142.00. Delivered price 725 lbs., 152.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 150.00 to 151.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 145.50 to 147.00. Future delivery, FOB price 600 to 700 lbs., 161.30 to 163.55 April; 700 to 750 lbs., 155.30 to 156.50 March to May; 800 lbs., 149.50 to 151.30 April to May. Delivered price 650 lbs., 159.00 to 161.15 March to May; 750 to 800 lbs., 153.50 to 156.95 March to May; 800 to 850 lbs., 147.00 to 154.00 February to June. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, FOB price, 585 lbs., 154.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 149.35 to 150.80; 750 to 800 lbs., 143.65 to 148.35; 800 to 850 lbs., 139.15 to 140.65; 925 lbs., 130.25. Delivered price, 450 to 500 lbs., Mexican Origin 150.00; 600 lbs., 159.50; 700 lbs., 152.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 143.00 to 147.00. Future delivery, delivered price 790 lbs., 146.70 April.

Heifers: 5,900 head, 43%, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 600 to 700 lbs., 143.50 to 145.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 134.00 to 137.00. Future delivery, FOB price 600 to 700 lbs., 150.00 to 155.15 April to June; 700 lbs., 147.00 April to May. Delivered price 600 to 700 lbs., 151.25 to 154.00 March to April; 700 to 750 lbs., 148.35 to 153.70 April to June. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, FOB price, 600 to 700 lbs., 134.60 to 138.60; 750 lbs., 134.00. Delivered price, 650 lbs., 143.00.
