Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 628 head Jan. 26, compared to 1,237 head last week and 1,811 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder lambs sold steady, good slaughter ewes were steady, thin ewes $4 higher. Many fewer lambs in the supply sold on an active market with very good demand. The offering consisted of 75% feeder lambs, 11% bred ewes, 14 slaughter ewes and bucks. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 36 head, 172 lbs., 75.50. Utility 1 to 2, Medium, 5 head, 144 lbs., 70.50. Cull 1, Thin, 32 head, 127 lbs., 70.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1, 10 head, 101 lbs., 215.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 71 to 76 lbs., 234.00 to 237.00 (235.46); 15 head, 82 lbs., 231.00; 95 to 99 lbs., 215.00 to 223.00 (221.30); 106 to 107 lbs., 199.00 to 200.00 (199.78). Medium and large frame 2, 7 head, 55 lbs., 235.00; 7 head, 86 lbs., 223.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 23 head, 65 lbs., 231.00. Bred ewes: Medium and large frame, 1 to 2, Whiteface, 36 head, 171 lbs., 4 to 6 years old 215.00; 14 head, 135 lbs., 1 to 4 years old 205.00 Medium, 17 head, 171 lbs., Broken 140.00.
