Springfield livestock auction report

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 2,332 head Feb. 1, compared to 1,465 head last week, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were $3 to $6 higher, except heifer calves under 500 pounds were $6 to $10 higher, Holsteins were steady and yearlings were steady compared to limited test last week. Demand was good, supply moderate. The receipts were heavier as the weather is much better than last week, and considerably better than a year ago on this date, for gathering and transporting cattle. The Live Cattle and Feeder Cattle contracts at the CME closed higher adding to the bullish trend of stocker and feeder trade. The feeder supply included 44% steers, 9% Holsteins, 39% heifers, 9% bulls, with 41% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 325 to 400 lbs., 195.00 to 203.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 180.00 to 198.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 160.00 to 194.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 166.00 to 174.00, calves 164.50 to 167.50, 650 to 700 lbs., 154.50 to 168.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 145.00 to 153.00; 800 to 875 lbs., 141.00 to 146.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 280 lbs., 206.50; 350 to 400 lbs., 189.50 to 198.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 163.50 to 186.00; 500 to 575 lbs., 161.00 to 177.50; 625 to 675 lbs., 150.00 to 166.50; 700 to 775 lbs., 137.00 to 152.50; package 819 lbs., 143.00; package 948 lbs., 120.00. Medium and large frame 2, package 310 lbs., thin 182.00. Medium frame 2 to 3, package 419 lbs., 161.00; package 626 lbs., 133.00.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, 450 to 500 lbs., 117.00 to 128.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 120.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 111.00 to 111.75; 785 to 800 lbs., 106.50 to 107.75; package 837 lbs., full 96.00.
