Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 638 head Jan. 31, compared to 1,142 head last week and 582 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

No price trend analysis was available due to limited comparable sales, except 700- to 750-pound Medium and large frame 1 to 2, feeder heifers were $3 higher. Slaughter cows were $2 to $4 higher, with instances of $5 to $6 higher on high dressing Boning type cows. Limited test on slaughter bulls. Slaughter cows made up 8% of the offering, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and 90% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 22% feeder steers and bulls, 78% feeder heifers, approximately 46% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 500 to 550 lbs., 170.00 to 172.50; few 602 lbs., 160.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 194.00 to 203.00, few Thin 225.00; few 436 lbs., 188.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 261 lbs., 179.00; few 646 lbs., 146.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 420 lbs., 136.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 465 lbs., 165.50; few 630 lbs., 149.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 390 lbs., 154.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 350 lbs., 189.00 to 191.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 157.00 to 169.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 153.50 to 160.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 241 lbs., 182.00; 300 to 350 lbs., 180.00 to 184.00, 350 to 400 lbs., 169.00 to 176.00; 450 to 500 lbs., Thin 165.00 to 168.50; few 557 lbs., 148.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 142.00 to 146.50; load 709 lbs., 143.50, few 786 lbs., fleshy 126.00. Medium and large frame 2, 500 to 600 lbs., 126.00 to 132.00; few 608 lbs., 121.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 528 lbs., 120.00.

Heifers/heiferettes: few 649 lbs., 100.00; few 800 to 900 lbs., 100.00 to 103.00; 1105 to 1115 lbs., 106.00 to 110.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 81.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 76.50 to 80.75; high dressing, 81.00 to 84.75; low dressing, 70.00 to 73.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 72.50 to 77.25; low dressing, 60.00 to 69.25. Light Lean, 51.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 82.50 to 83.25.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young, 1 to 3 months bred, 865 to 1035 lbs., 770.00 to 850.00, 3 to 9 months bred, 800 to 1000 lbs., 875.00 to 985.00. Middle-aged, 1 to 6 months bred, 1090 lbs., 900.00 to 950.00, few 920 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred, 700.00 to 710.00. Aged, 3 to 9 months bred, 900 to 1100 lbs., 525.00 to 700.00.
