McAlester livestock auction reportThe McAlester Union Stockyards, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,300 head Jan. 31, compared to 1,500 head last week and 2,300 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, steers under 500 pounds were $8 to $16 higher, over 500 pounds were steady. Heifers sold mostly $3 to $8 higher. Demand was good for most classes. The supply included 19% over 600 pounds, 41% heifers. Slaughter cows were $2 to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 higher. Packer demand was very good. A total of 200 cows and bulls sold with 59% going to packers.
