McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Stockyards, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,300 head Jan. 31, compared to 1,500 head last week and 2,300 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steers under 500 pounds were $8 to $16 higher, over 500 pounds were steady. Heifers sold mostly $3 to $8 higher. Demand was good for most classes. The supply included 19% over 600 pounds, 41% heifers. Slaughter cows were $2 to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 higher. Packer demand was very good. A total of 200 cows and bulls sold with 59% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 350 lbs., 210.00 to 228.00 (216.28); 350 to 400 lbs., 195.00 to 218.00 (203.88); 400 to 450 lbs., 188.00 to 215.00 (198.67); 450 to 500 lbs., 180.00 to 200.00 (188.93); 500 to 550 lbs., 165.00 to 180.00 (173.78); 550 to 600 lbs., 156.00 to 175.00 (164.52); 600 to 650 lbs., 154.00 to 169.00 (162.69); 650 to 700 lbs., 150.00 to 164.00 (156.85); 10 head, 750 to 800 lbs., 134.00 to 150.00 (145.06). Medium and large frame 2, 10 head, 300 to 350 lbs., 153.00 to 204.00 (182.84); 8 head, 350 to 400 lbs., 190.00 to 194.00 (192.26); 11 head, 400 to 450 lbs., 181.00 to 187.00 (184.90); 8 head, 450 to 500 lbs., 176.00 to 179.00 (177.87).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 350 lbs., 165.00 to 184.00 (169.58); 350 to 400 lbs., 161.00 to 177.00 (166.47); 400 to 450 lbs., 162.00 to 177.00 (166.71); 450 to 500 lbs., 161.00 to 177.00 (169.77); 500 to 550 lbs., 150.00 to 168.00 (157.17); 550 to 600 lbs., 142.00 to 156.00 (150.10); 11 head, 600 to 650 lbs., 146.00 to 154.00 (149.69); 14 head, 650 to 700 lbs., 140.00 to 151.00 (146.66); 13 head, 700 to 750 lbs., 128.00 to 144.00 (139.70); 6 head, 750 to 800 lbs., 128.00 to 132.00 (129.84). Medium and large frame 2, 6 head, 350 to 400 lbs., 151.00 to 159.00 (154.50).

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 17 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1500 lbs., 79.00 to 82.00; high dressing, 83.00 to 86.00; low dressing, 75.00 to 78.00. Boners, 24 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1475 lbs., 78.00 to 81.00; high dressing, 82.00 to 85.00; low dressing, 72.00 to 77.00. Lean, 38 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1275 lbs., 71.00 to 74.00; high dressing, 75.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 66.00 to 70.00. Light, 39 head, 85 to 90% lean, 850 to 1000 lbs., 67.00 to 70.00; high dressing, 71.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 66.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 14 head, 1300 to 2100 lbs., 88.00 to 91.00; high dressing, 95.00 to 98.00; low dressing, 80.00 to 87.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 875 to 900 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, low quality 875.00 to 990.00; 5 to 6 years old, 975 to 1150 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 975.00 to 1150.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1150 to 1375 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 1150.00 to 1375.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1150 to 1275 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 910.00 to 1175.00; 9+ years old, 1000 to 1225 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 945.00 to 1050.00..
