OPSU bulls weighed off performance test

The beef bulls on the 60th Annual Oklahoma Panhandle State University Performance Test at Goodwell, Okla., were weighed off test Jan. 28. In preparation for the Feb. 20 sale, the bulls will be measured for frame score, scrotal circumference and evaluated on semen quality. The bulls ended up with an average daily gain of 3.74 pounds and a weight-per-day-of-age of 3.07 lbs. Seventy of these bulls will sell in the 60th Annual Bull Sale on Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. CST, Goodwell, Okla. The sale will be held in the England Activity Center at the University Farm with Eddie Sims as the auctioneer.

The top gaining bull on test was an Angus junior-age bull consigned by Wink Farms of Panhandle, Texas. This bull, a son of Sydgen Mandate 6079, had an ADG of 5.36 lbs. and a WDA of 3.58 lbs. In second place in the junior age division is a Phil Light Angus of Turpin, Okla., with an ADG of 5.17 lbs. and a WDA of 3.56 lbs. This bull is a son of Kesslers Frontman R001. Hollon Angus of Woodward, Okla., has the third and fourth ranked juniors with ADGs of 4.62 and 4.59 and WDAs of 3.52 and 3.77, respectively. Hollon Angus also has the top pen of junior age bulls with an ADG of 4.34 lbs. on a pen of three Angus sired by LD Predestined 827. John Mollet of Elk City, Okla., is tied with Wink Farms for the second ranked pen of juniors with an ADG of 4.26 lbs. The John Mollet pen of three Angus is sired by LD Predestined 716 and the sires represented in the Wink Farms pen are Sydgen Mandate 6079 and Circle A Incentive. Wink Farms has the top senior age bull with an ADG of 5.19 lbs. on a son of Connealy Danny Boy. Mindemann Angus of Apache, Okla., has the second place senior with an ADG of 4.75 lbs. on a son of JDD Midland 785. Another Mindemann bull sired by Spur Rito 6I6 6400 is tied with an OPSU senior bull for third place on an ADG of 4.55 lbs. The OPSU bull is sired by GAR OAF 1I2 Rito 7041G. OPSU has the top pen of three senior bulls with an ADG of 4.18 lbs. All three bulls are sired by GAR OAF 1I2 Rito 7041G. In second place is the Mindemann pen of three Angus at 4.27 lbs. Wink Farms pen of four Angus is third with an ADG of 4.07 lbs. Sires represented in this pen are Connealy Danny Boy, Circle A Incentive and Connealy Reflection.
