Cowgirl ranch rodeo association formedThe sport of All-Women's Ranch Rodeo is exploding. The formation of a new organization, the Ranch Cowgirls Rodeo Association leaves ranch rodeo supporters and contestants excited about the 2012 season. According to the RCRA mission statement, the association was formed because of the "ever-growing desire for cowgirls to have ranch rodeo competitions where cowgirls' skills and lifestyle are showcased in a forum that is fair, professional, accountable and organized." Women have always been a major part of all ranch works whether it was as a mother, housewife, cow hand, horse-breaker, feed hand, or all of the above. In recent decades, women's rodeo abilities have become more fore-front in the rodeo sports world. Evolving are more and more associations for women to be able to showcase these skills. RCRA is excited to be one of these organizations and is looking forward to providing exciting performances. "We will be the first All-Women's Ranch Rodeo organization that has a full board of non-contestants, as well as the first All-Women's Ranch Rodeo organization that will have a fund for cowgirls' and their families in need," says Jaree Elliott, RCRA secretary. RCRA board members, Kathleen Hill of Channing, Texas; Will Durrett of Wildorado, Texas; Mary Davis of Cimarron, N.M.; Steve Lewis of Amarillo, Texas; and Coli Hunt of Texico, N.M., are ready to start off the 2012 RCRA rodeo season in Clovis, N.M., on April 22. "We are looking forward to lady cowhands from all over the country joining up to show their amazing cow and pony skills," says Kathleen Hill, RCRA president.
