Donation to Stout Marketing Center serves multiple purposes

Kansas

Construction is set to begin this spring on the Stanley Stout Livestock Marketing and Learning Center at Kansas State University. Named for the late livestock auctioneer Stanley E. Stout, the project is moving forward thanks to a gift from Rich and Sarah Porter, who own Porter Cattle Company at Reading. The K-State Department of Animal Sciences and Industry is seeking additional funds to complete the technology needs, auction block, bleachers and other furnishings.

The center will be located north of the department's Purebred Unit, across Kimball Avenue, and on the same piece of property as the K-State Equine Center. Rich Porter believes the primary beneficiaries of the Stout Livestock Marketing and Learning Center will be KLA members.

Porter's donation has another special purpose. It will allow for adjacent and complementary facilities honoring two long-time friends: Rich's late father, Walter, and the late Orville Burtis, Jr., who passed away Jan. 8. One of the first structures at the Equine Center is Burtis Arena, consisting of two outdoor arenas for use by the K-State rodeo and equestrian teams.
