Pratt feeder cattle auction report

The Pratt Livestock Feeder Cattle Auction, Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 1,939 head, Dec. 20, compared to 2,607 head, last week and 460 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers at 700 to 950 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Feeder heifers at 700 to 800 pounds were steady to $2 lower on a limited supply. Steers at 700 pounds and also heifers at 700 pounds and under were not enough for a true market test. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $2 higher. Trade was active and demand good for the yearling type cattle. Receipts, 82% 600 pounds and over, 9% 600 pounds and under, 9% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply 69% steers and 26% heifers.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 392 lbs., 191.00; 23 head, 403 lbs., 205.00; 450 to 500 170.00 to 175.00 (171.30); 16 head, 650 lbs., 160.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 156.10 to 156.25 (156.15); 750 to 800 lbs., 151.50 to 152.50 (151.74); 800 to 850 lbs., 149.10 to 150.10 (149.50); 850 to 900 lbs., 150.85 to 151.10 (150.97); 64 head, 905 lbs., 146.25; 14 head, 1050 lbs., 132.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 487 lbs., 166.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 163.00 to 163.50 (163.39); 550 to 600 lbs., 157.00 to 159.00 (157.70); 600 to 650 lbs., 151.00 to 155.50 (154.66); 18 head, 751 lbs., 148.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 145.00 to 148.50 (146.83); 850 to 900 lbs., 143.10 to 145.00 (143.90). Medium and large frame 2, 21 head, 686 lbs., 141.75; 750 to 800 lbs., 140.00; 850 to 900 lbs., 142.00 to 142.75 (142.48). Large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 650 lbs., 138.50 to 140.00 (139.57); 700 to 750 lbs., 138.00 to 138.50 (138.13); 6 head, 775 lbs., 137.00.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 650 to 700 lbs., 138.00 to 139.00 (138.66); 700 to 750 lbs., 137.00 to 139.50 (138.26). Large frame 1 to 2, 9 head, 437 lbs., 145.50; 450 to 500 lbs., 140.00 to 144.00 (142.54); 500 to 550 lbs., 136.00 to 139.00 (138.15); 550 to 600 lbs., 132.50 to 133.00 (132.70); 7 head, 635 lbs., 134.00; 4 head, 687 lbs., 131.00.

Baby calves: Per head, steer/bulls, 2 head, 210 lbs., 310.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 73.00 to 74.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 74.50 to 79.50; high dressing, 80.00 to 82.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 72.50 to 78.50; high dressing, 79.00 to 83.00; low dressing, 64.50 to 71.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 94.00 to 97.50; low dressing, 83.50 to 86.50. Yield grade 3, 75.50 to 77.00; low dressing 66.00 to 74.00.
