Extension to host cattle management in drought conditions workshop

All cow-calf and feeder cattle producers should plan to attend the "Cattle Feeding and Marketing in Drought Conditions" workshop to be held Jan. 15, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Auburn Civic Center, 1020 North Washington in Auburn, Kan. Shawnee County Extension and Landmark National Bank will be organizing and hosting this workshop. Area cattle producers have many challenges with their livestock operations in 2012 with the severe drought and need help and advice in these times.

The event will start at 6 p.m. with a light meal to be followed by presentations from Dr. Glynn Tonsor, KSU Assistant Professor, Livestock Marketing Specialist and Dr. Jaymelynn Farney, KSU Southeast Area Livestock Specialist. Tonsor's topics will include, cow-calf and feeder risk management, contracting and marketing, LRP insurance, and the market outlook. Farney will present about drought and feed shortages, balancing available feed, nitrates and aflatoxin, water problems, and care of cattle with current conditions. The evening will end with questions that the audience has of the two presenters.

This evening will be free to the public to attend, but please RSVP by Jan. 10.
