Ft. Smith livestock auction summary

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 675 head Nov. 26, compared to 541 head last week and 525 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 to $4 lower. Feeder steers and heifers under 400 pounds were $3 to $5 higher, over 400 pounds were $3 to $7 lower. The supply included 333 feeder calves, 224 feeder yearlings, 40 replacement cows, 63 slaughter cows, 13 slaughter bulls, and 2 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply was 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 69.00 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 64.00 to 68.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 73.00 to 77.50; high dressing, 78.00 to 82.00; low dressing, 68.00 to 72.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 71.00 to 75.50; high dressing, 76.00 to 80.00; low dressing, 66.00 to 70.50. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 54.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 63.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 85.00 to 89.00; high dressing, 90.00 to 95.00; low dressing, 78.00 to 80.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 335 lbs., 181.00 to 187.00 (182.95); 360 to 385 lbs., 179.00 to 187.50 (182.46); 405 to 440 lbs., 163.00 to 178.00 (172.26); 453 to 480 lbs., 161.00 to 168.00 (165.49); 500 to 548 lbs., 146.00 to 154.00 (147.30); 550 to 590 lbs., 141.50 to 147.00 (142.71); 615 to 616 lbs., 139.80 to 148.00 (140.00); 655 to 699 lbs., 129.00 to 136.00 (132.91); 708 to 743 lbs., 131.00 to 134.00 (133.41).
