Texas direct feeder cattle summary

The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, reported receipts of 17,500 head Nov. 23, compared to 20,500 head last week and 18,300 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, current feeder steers and heifers were steady to weak on a light holiday week test. This was a typical holiday week with a limited number of comparable sales for Current FOB cattle since much of the trade was contracts. There were also a much higher percentage of Medium and large frame 1 to 2, steers in the Current FOB cattle. Approximately 99% of this week's cattle weighed over 600 pounds. Approximately 52% of this week's weighted average receipts were steers and 48% heifers. Prices based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent and 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 4 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Delivered prices include freight, commissions and other expenses. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.

Steers: 9,100 head, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price 600 to 650 lbs., 146.00 to 152.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 143.00 to 144.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 143.50, fleshy 138.50. Delivered Price 800 to 875 lbs., 145.50. Future delivery, FOB price 750 lbs., 143.30 to 149.20 January to February; 800 lbs., 145.70 February. Delivered price 700 to 800 lbs., 148.20 to 150.25 February to March; 800 to 850 lbs., 142.15 to 150.25 January to March. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, FOB price 600 to 675 lbs., 145.25, calves 131.85 to 133.75; 700 to 750 lbs., 139.25 to 140.10; 750 to 800 lbs., 134.75 to 139.35. Future delivery, delivered price 650 lbs., 153.75 February. Medium and large frame 2, FOB price 650 lbs., 144.50.

Heifers: 8,400 head, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price 650 to 700 lbs., 140.00. Future delivery, FOB price 650 to 700 lbs., 142.50 to 146.20 January to February; 700 to 750 lbs., 136.85 to 141.70 January to March. Delivered price 650 to 700 lbs., 144.50 to 145.20 February to March; 700 to 750 lbs., 139.50 to 146.80 December to May. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, FOB price 600 to 700 lbs., 132.00 to 133.60, calves 123.75. Delivered price 700 lbs., 136.00 to 139.00.
